Magpie Season in Australia – BEHIND YOU!!

With all the dust, smoke and dairy issues I have been running into over the last month, I have managed to let a perfectly good opportunity pass by – to warn you about a heinous seasonal affliction that Australia has…

What could I mean…?

Magpie season!!

During the months of  August to November this little black and white feathered creature transforms from its status of being a slightly aggravating bird - to a savage, demonically possessed suicide-bomber.

Of course it does have a good reason, after all it is nesting season, so it is only doing what any woman suffering with postnatal depression in a hot feathered suit would do.

Only this week I saw the most horrific sight… the local postman was veering his motorbike all over a fairly busy road, waving one arm frantically above his head in an effort to stop the bird from persistently clacking its bill on his helmet – but not just once or twice, this bird had taken it personally and actually wanted the man dead… or at least that’s how it seemed.

OK, it did make me burst into knicker-wetting laughter as an onlooker, but it probably traumatised the poor postie – he must have been miles away from the nest by the time the damn thing stopped attacking and I doubt anyone has had any mail delivered since.

So, just remember to watch out at magpie season – change your walking and cycling routes to avoid areas where they might be nesting or if all else fails, take a helmet/shield/suit of armour/oozie 9mm with you in your bag.

Have a safe week. x.
